Currently, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is in discussions with several cricket boards that have not paid prize money to players from this year’s Twenty 20 World Cup, sources added on Thursday.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the World Cricketers’ Association (WCA) noted that some unpaid prize money had been taken by “threatening and intimidator behaviour” from national governing bodies for players.
Reuters was informed that the ICC is pointing out the issue with five of the 20 participating boards to ensure that players receive their payments without delay.
Recently, WCA CEO Tom Moffat said that the global players’ organization was “extremely concerned… about several threats directed at players who lead themselves and their team players in certain cricket situations.
Highly we appreciate the ICC’s efforts for ensuring the players who are involved to receive full payments, and we are hopeful that the ICC will take necessary actions moving forward any boards that fail to meet with terms of participation,” Moffat added.
In our sport, every player should have access to all the benefits they deserve and be able to play, work, and inspire themselves and their fellows in a safe environment.
JP Van Wyk who is head of welfare and education at WCA said “This fund was created to support international players who do not access the existing domestic systems in the game. “We believe that the fund will provide better assistance to current and recently retired international cricketers who are currently without support and in worried situations”.
